By 2009, there is to be a market for 46.8m VoWLAN phones, of which 64
per cent (29.8m) will be ‘dual-mode’ mobile/VoWLAN devices, according
to a report from market research firm Disruptive Analysis. These will
be able to connect to both ordinary mobile networks, and wi-fi access
points. The rest will be ‘single-mode’ VoWLAN handsets, similar to
today’s home or office cordless phones, but potentially with much
greater functionality.
