EBAY joined forces with Google yesterday in a powerful alliance that will put the internet search engine operator in charge of all advertising on the online auction house’s websites outside the US.
The alliance cements Google’s position as one of the most powerful companies on the internet and further isolates Microsoft, which remains the biggest software company in the world but is rapidly losing ground to Google in the battle to dominate the online service industry.

Meg Whitman, the eBay chief executive, announced the deal before the markets opened on Wall Street yesterday morning.
